Monique Boutin is a transdisciplinary artist and educator. Her work explores land use and natural, social and economic histories of place, especially in the Northeastern U.S., through video, photographs, installation, drawings and collaborative archives. Monique holds BAs in Studio Art and Art History from the University of Maine, and an MA in Art History and MFA in Visual Arts from Purchase College, SUNY. Her research interests include participatory artistic practices, institutions and movements engaging with environmental justice. She has taught courses in drawing and art and civic engagement at Purchase College, SUNY, and courses for K-12 students in photography, drawing, U.S. and Maine history, geography, and visual art. Originally from southern Maine, she currently teaches place-based art & ecology courses at Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, coaches cross country and track, and works on an oyster farm in midcoast Maine.
